In this new year we find ourselves dealing with some of the same questions and issues that we dealt with in 2020 (i.e. COVID) but we also are faced with some new challenges.  We will have a new President and we now know the full makeup of Congress, so many are wondering what effect these changes will have in our estate planning world.  Many, but not all, of these questions center around taxes:  Will there be a reduction of the Estate Tax exemption and, if so, is it likely that a change would be retroactive to the start of 2021?  What about the basis adjustment, is that going away?    How do we need to advise our clients who are wondering about these things?

Join me as we welcome guest presenter, Jennifer Davenport to discuss these questions.  Jenni is the vice president of the editorial department at WealthCounsel where she oversees a team of attorneys and paralegals dedicated to enhancing and maintaining WealthCounsel’s drafting libraries.  Jenni also frequently presents on important estate planning topics for WealthCounsel members and other groups, including several presentations on the SECURE Act. Before joining WealthCounsel, she worked as an attorney in private practice in Salt Lake City, Utah where she focused on representing clients in creating and administering basic to complex estates and trusts.  Jenni obtained her JD from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and is licensed in Utah. She now lives in Saint George, Utah with her husband and three young children where they enjoy spending time outside exploring places like Zion National Park.
